Relief for Kuresoi North residents as veterinary officers vaccinate stray dogs

Following several incidences of stray dogs attacking humans in Moto village of Kuresoi Sub-county, the veterinary department has moved in swiftly to vaccinate all the dogs against rabies in the village.
This is after a recent incident where a stray dog attacked 4 people in the village putting them to risk of contracting rabies.
Dr Peter Mwangi who is the Kuresoi North Veterinary officer said they decided to take the initiative of vaccinating all the dogs to prevent a rabies outbreak in the village which he termed as deadly.
‘Dog owners have come out in large numbers to have their dogs vaccinated because we offered the vaccine for free. Mature dogs need one vaccine per year while small dogs need to be vaccinated twice per year, ‘ he added.
He added that victims of a dog bite should receive treatment immediately because failure to do that will lead to death in future.
Dr Josphat Karoki who is also a veterinary officer said they decided to take the family that was attacked to hospital because it dangerous if not treated after 7 days.
