Man charged with carrying marked ballot papers in Busia

A man has been charged with dissemination of marked ballot papers with intention of influencing outcome of election in Busia County.

Antony Ajulusi allegedly disseminated information in respect of the Orange Democratic movement (ODM) party through marked printed ballot papers for Governor 2017 Busia County Primaries.

The court heard that the papers were purported to be validity cast votes in favour of gubernatorial candidate Sospeter Odeke  Ojaamong with intention of aiding the commission  of an offence  or unlawfully influencing the outcome of the said Busia County  Geberantosl elections for 2017 election period.

The alleged offence occurred on April 13, 2017 in Angurai polling station, Angurai North Ward,Teso North Cosntituency  within Busia County.

This comes amid statement that ODM will repeat the nominations in Busia County due to irregularities experienced during the nomination.

The party’s National Elections Board said the process was marred by irregularities and will be repeated on April 25.

Governor Sospeter Ojaamong had emerged the winner with 92,358 amid rigging allegations while his challenger Paul Otuoma got 63,752 votes.

In Teso South, Otuoma garnered 1,359 while Ojaamong garnered 44,369. In Teso North, Otuoma got 3,303 whereas Ojaamong garnered 33,349.

Results from the two constituencies were delayed in the nomination results announced last week.

The two constituencies were considered the strongholds of Ojaamong, who was trailing Otuoma with 90 per cent of the votes in before the results from the two zones were announced.
