Benson Marangu, Otundo found guilty of killing 9-year-old minor
Benson Kimathi Marangu and co-accused Francis Otundo have been found guilty of the murder of Marybel Kapolong, who died in 2018 in Meru county.
A High Court in Chuka sentenced Marangu to 40 years’ imprisonment and co-accused Otundo 5 years for threatening to kill the deceased which he has served since his arrest.
Marybel Kapolong, who was nine years old at the time of her death was the daughter of Githongo Senior Resident Magistrate Carol Kemei.
Kapolong was kidnapped on September 6 ,2018 and her body found dumped in Gitoro Forest in Meru 11 days later.
A post-mortem on Kapolong’s body showed that her killers hit her on the head several times, inflicting serious injuries that resulted to her death.
The matter was prosecuted by Jane Maari and Erick Momanyi from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
