Babu Owino barred from Parliament for 5 days over unruly conduct

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has been barred from Parliament premises for unruly conduct for the next five days.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, has ordered that the MP be prohibited from the chamber, committees, and any other activity in Parliament, as well as missing five sessions.

“I direct the MP to withdraw from chamber and precincts for five days inclusive today pursuant to Standing Order 107 If he is not in the chamber today, he will not be allowed to access precincts, chamber, committee, or any House activities,” Muturi said.

On April 14, when Wajir Woman MP Fatuma Gedi sought to introduce documents on land grabbing claims against Deputy President William Ruto, Babu was reprimanded for refusing to obey orders to exit the chamber.

“It has not escaped the attention of the members that he refused to leave. Due to the gross misconduct, I deferred the ruling to today for the committees, let it be noted that he will not attend as a member of the public. The proceedings of any committee that allows him to sit would be rendered nullity,” Muturi said.

Owino stood to defend Gedi throughout the commotion, resulting in the riot that paralysed House business.

The Speaker ordered the Embakasi East MP out immediately after he said something that appeared to enrage him.

Azimio la Umoja MPs, on the other hand, erected a perimeter around Owino, preventing the Serjeant-at-Arms from ejecting him.
