George Kariuki Njoroge, Group Managing Director of East African Data Handlers and Azimio One Kenya Coalition IT specialist has been sued by Aworky General Supplies Limited at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Nairobi for allegedly obtaining Sh2million by false pretense with a promise to pay back.
George is said to have approached one of the Company Directors for a soft loan with a promise to pay but after the funds were advanced to him, he went under and refused to honour the promise to pay.
East Africa Data Handlers through George Kariuki Njoroge has further been sued by the same Aworky General Supplies Limited for ordering office furniture and other goods worth Sh205,000 but later failing to pay for the delivered goods.
This is not the first time the East African Data Handlers has been caught on the wrong side of the law.
Back in 2020, Safaricom sued East Africa Data Handlers in a case that the operator claims saw it lose Sh20.3 million following a breach of contract by the IT company.
Safaricom sought the services of East Africa Data Handlers to manage the carrier’s mobile payment platforms: Lipa na M-PESA and Buy Goods.
East Africa Data Handlers was tasked with data management and recovery in early 2016.
The company was also responsible for onboarding merchants onto the mobile money payment products. The exercise saw East Africa Data Handlers receive unknown amounts of cash from transactions processed through the platform.
Safaricom says its business partner failed to settle merchant accounts upon receiving withdrawal requests.
To date, Kenya’s largest mobile operator reportedly incurred a Sh 20.3 million loss.
