Two Tanzanian nationals arrested in Isebania, Migori while illegally transporting explosives
Two Tanzanian nationals have been arrested and illegal gold mine explosives recovered by police officers in Isebania, along the border of Kenya and Tanzania.
The Sh9million worth of gold explosives were being transported in a Toyota Probox by the foreigners to an unknown destination when police officers got a tip-off from members of the public.
Migori County Police Commander Francis Nguli said the explosives were being transported into the country illegally from Tanzania and without a permit when they nabbed them.
He said the two suspects are being held in police custody as more investigations are being conducted.
Nguli applauded members of the public for the tip-off and the quick response by the security personnel.
The explosives were packaged in 25 carton boxes and were weighing 625 kilograms.
“The two were from Tanzania and they did not have a permit to transport them. For such things to be transported, they needed a permit from the Ministry of Mining and Blue Economy which they did not have.” Nguli stated.
“After investigations, they will be presented to the court and be charged.” He added.
Nguli said officers are keen to ensure that Migori does not become a passage of illegal stuff into the country.
“My team of security team is very alert to ensure that Migori does not become a passage of illegal things into the country. We have to protect our country.” He said.
