Primary school teacher sentenced to 20 years for defiling student

A primary school teacher, who defiled a 13-year-old pupil has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Fredrick Mwangi Wango was accused of defiling the minor, who was a class six student, in his house in March 2016 at Mathare North in Nairobi.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate, David Ndugi, the 45-year-old was found guilty of the offence.

“The accused who is a teacher defiled a child. The rights of his children are not superior to that of the child he defiled, I hereby sentence him to 20 years in prison as provided by law,” ruled the magistrate.

The court heard that Mwangi had transformed the girl into a wife after the girl admitted that she would sneak from Western Kenya to live with him.

On March 20,2016, Mwangi lured the girl to his Mathare house as she was heading to school around 6am.

According to the prosecution, Mwangi locked the girl in the house and went to school and returned after 9am.

When she failed to arrive home later that evening, her uncle, a police officer, called the school where Mwangi denied if the girl was in his house.

“The guardian of the child went to the teacher’s house and found the girl still in school uniform in the house,” said the magistrate.

Mwangi was arrested and the girl was taken for examination at a city hospital where reports showed that she was sexually assaulted.

The minor was later interrogated by gender and children desk officers on whether there was any relationship between her and the accused or any other person in Mathare since she always left school to go to the accused house but she denied it.
