According to a statement by Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Police Constable Jared Makambe who was guarding the Muthaiga home of the businessman has been arrested alongside Judah Wafula and Stephen Omwega as law enforcers launch probe into the incident.
Kinoti said two armed thugs gained entry into Chandaria’s house and robbed him of an unknown amount of money and assorted jewellery at gunpoint.
The thugs then escaped while firing a G3 rifle alleged to have been stolen from the AP officer on guard.
“Officers responding to the scene conducted a thorough search leading to the recovery of the suspected stolen G3 rifle at a nearby bush,” he said.
A preliminary investigation from Muthaiga police station Nairobi, where the robbery was reported stated that Dr Chandaria’s home was raided in the wee hours of the night by two armed robbers who were wielding a pistol and a metal cutter.
“They ordered Dr Chandaria and his wife to give them money at gunpoint. He showed them the safe where they broke it and took away an unknown amount of money and some pieces of jewellery. They then left the house while firing using a G3 rifle,” the report read in part.
