12 die, 70, 000 others infected following Hepatitis B outbreak in Baringo
Panic has gripped various parts of Baringo County after medical officers confirmed that 12 people have succumbed to the deadly Hepatitis B infection in the last few weeks.
It has also emerged that an estimated 70, 000 people are grappling with the disease with the worst hit areas being Marigat, Loboi, Sandai and Lake Baringo and Barwesa, Bartabwa and Cheminytany in Baringo South and Baringo South respectively.
But the director of Medical Services Dr Jackson Kioko dispelled the fears, insisting that the reported disease has similar symptoms with hebatitis B.
He assured that there are plans to provide vaccines to vulnerable and other people not only in Baringo but the entire country.
“A national strategic plan has been developed ,” Dr Kioko stated in a short message in response to enquiries about the outbreak.
