Various stakeholders join FGM campaign
The anti Female Genital Mutilation Campaigns continue in the country as various stakeholders continue to sensitize communities that still practice the vice.
Narok County which is one of the counties still practicing FGM joined the world in marking the International Day for Zero tolerance for FGM.
According to Narok South Deputy County Commissioner Justus Mutua the practice by the Maasai Community has gone down. Mutua revealed that a section of the community is still practicing the vice as they migrate to neighboring countries as they run away from authorities.
The DC warned the perpetrators of FGM that they will face the full force of the law once arrested. He further called on the maa community to allow the girl child get education instead of letting her undergo the cut and later on forced early marriages.
Narok Women representative Soipan Kudate states that politicians were always silent in the war against FGM insisting it was wrong for leaders to stay away from the campaigns against FGM.
Soipan maintained that there were numerous disadvantages of FGM that have seen the Maasai community lag behind in her education. She called on the community to embrace change and ensure that the girl child is supported in achieving her dreams.
