Online retailer Jumia Kenya has partnered with American multinational financial services provider Mastercard to make the Black Friday sales bonanza possible.
The retailer, which is in the market for four weeks of Black Friday discounts starting November 13, is banking on increased inventories and awareness to boost sales volumes during the bonanza.
Black Friday, used to refer to the single day of the year when retail companies finally went “into the black” – made profits after a long year. But most retailers, like Jumia, have since expanded the concept turning it into a month of discounted deals.
Jumia’s online platform has since witnessed a surge in inventory across all categories including fashion, electronics, phones, computers, home, baby, health, beauty, travel and food, with up to 80 per cent discount off regular prices on up to 500,000 products from 5,000 vendor merchants.
Those making payments with Mastercard will get Sh750 vouchers for their next purchase on Jumia in a partnership which includes phonemakers Infinix, Pampers and nice and lovely.
The bonanza goes live on the Jumia platform at midnight Sunday and will serve customers on first-come-first served basis.
Payments can also be made through a cash-on-delivery option, mobile money transfer– upon delivery, paying online through mobile phones and Paypal.
Among the crazy deals includes acquiring a state of the art I-phone for Sh1000 despite it going for more than Sh70,000.
Shoppers chance to win prizes including tickets to a Jumia Black Friday concert where Sauti Sol will be performing on the 23rd of November 2017 at the Alchemist, Westlands featuring among other artists, H-Art the Band and stand up comedians.
