28 children paralysed due to medical negligence in Busia to get compensation
The 28 children who suffered paralysis after developing weak limbs due to an injection administered in 2016 at Akichelesit Dispensary in Busia County will be compensated.
The decision to compensate the affected children and the family of the Sio Port Woman who died due to delivery delays, was reached after heated debate on a motion moved by Malaba South Ward MCA David Kokonya.
Speaking while moving the motion in the county assembly Wednesday, Kokonya said the two incidents affected the socio-economic abilities of the affected persons.
“Some families have been left traumatized following the loss of their loved ones while others have to cope with paralysis occasioned to their children. Consequently, I feel the government is duty bound to compensate victims and at least bring some hope to the affected families,” said the ward representative.
Kokonya argued that the 28 children suffered irreparable damage while the family of the Sio Port Woman who died with her twins due to slow response from the medics was also suffering.
Members finally unanimously agreed with the mover of the motion that the victims be compensated.
