Ruto begins 5-days Western tour with Kakamega Airstrip inspection

President William Ruto yesterday evening begun a five-day development tour of the Western Kenya region, starting with an inspection of key infrastructure projects in Kakamega County.

The President arrived in the county yesterday and immediately assessed ongoing rehabilitation and expansion works at the Kakamega Airstrip, one of the projects the government hopes will transform regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

Speaking during the inspection, Ruto said the upgrade of the airstrip is a strategic investment aimed at opening up the region to more opportunities in trade, tourism and investment.

According to the president, once completed, the improved facility will enhance air transport services and provide faster links between Western Kenya and other parts of the country, particularly the capital, Nairobi.

“The expansion and modernization of Kakamega Airstrip will significantly improve air connectivity in this region. It will also support economic activities by making it easier for investors, tourists and business people to access Western Kenya,” the President said.

Government officials indicated that the project forms part of a broader national strategy to strengthen regional infrastructure and promote balanced economic development across counties.

During the five-day tour, the Head of State is expected to visit several counties across the Western region to assess the progress of various government-funded projects in sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, housing and energy.

He is also scheduled to hold meetings with local leaders, government officials and community representatives to discuss development priorities and the implementation of the administration’s economic agenda.

The tour will also provide an opportunity for residents to raise concerns and present proposals aimed at improving service delivery and economic opportunities within the region.
