Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi has read riot act on education bosses warning them that the government will sack any county education boss found colluding with schools principals in violating school fee guidelines.
In a bold move aimed at curbing school fee guidelines violation, the cabinet secretary warned that county education bosses will carry the cross since they are the one sleeping on the job.
He said that the government will not entertain lazy and corrupt county education bosses who fail to perform.
Speaking at Gathuthiini secondary school in Kirinyaga County, the no nonsense education CS directed county education bosses to work from the field and stop working from the offices saying that they should spend three days per week visiting schools to find challenges they are facing.
Dr Matiangi also supported new tough rules spelt by TSC to curb teacher’s absenteeism terming them as timely. He revealed that teachers will require written permission to be absent from school and can only attend conferences during weekends under new rules to keep them in class to improve performance.
Non-academic activities he said will be conducted over weekends and holidays to ensure curriculum completion and implementation.
The CS said that all teachers must sign performance contract and any promotion or disciplinary cases will be based on his/her performance.
He said that lazy teachers have no place in our schools and both TSC and ministry officials must work in synergy and stop working at close purpose. He lamented that many hours are lost when head teachers and principals attend endless meetings a move he said has affected the performance of students.
In a move which was warmly received by parents Matinagi pointed that days when teachers would disappear from school without permission must come to an end with teachers spending more time in at class.
Matiangi also warned teachers from administering corporal punishment saying that the ministry will take stern action against any teachers violating government policy.
He insisted that corporal punishment it’s illegal and teachers must desist from administering canes on helpless pupils.
