Senior Counsel Bar demands swift probe into murder of Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu

The Senior Counsel Bar has called for an expedited investigation into the cold murder of City Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.

A statement by SCB Chairperson Philip Murgor has emphasized that no stone should be left unturned until the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to book.

“The SCB calls upon investigators to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible. Whatever the case, no stone should be left unturned by the DCI to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book,” Murgor stated.

According to the SCB, confidence will be restored in the legal profession if the law enforcement agencies view advocates as partners in the administration of justice in the investigation rather than opponents and adversaries.

“While the SCB and LSK have received and accepted the personal assurances of the Director of CID that a diligent and comprehensive investigation will be conducted, it is only in this way that confidence will be restored in the legal profession,” the Senior Counsels have reiterated.

This is even as they raised questions on why the day of the death of the counsel coincided with a post that appeared on social media by Captain (Rtd) Kungu, in which he complained about a 33-year-old case of his, in which the late Mbobu was at some point his advocate.

“Is it a coincidence that he is then gunned down on the same day?” The SCB has raised eyebrows.

Earlier, the Law Society of Kenya had also called upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to immediately commence an investigation into the murder of the lawyer and prosecute those involved.

The Lawyers’ body stated that it expected the case to be investigated promptly, as it was seen when MP Charles Were was gunned down by assailants.

“We recently saw how effective our investigative agencies can be in undertaking investigations, and we anticipate that equal urgency and professionalism shall be implied in concluding this matter,” LSK President Faith Odhiambo stated.

In an update today, the DCI has expressed solidarity with the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues on the investigation into the tragic incident that occurred along Magadi Road.

The investigative agency confirmed that the shooting was immediately reported and that a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene under the supervision of Nairobi area commanders.

Crime scene specialists from the DCI Homicide Bureau, working alongside experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, conducted a thorough examination of the site and gathered crucial evidence for the ongoing probe.

“The DCI is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice. Our investigators are working diligently, employing all available resources and expertise to piece together the events surrounding this incident.”

The directorate has appealed for public calm and cooperation during the investigation period, emphasizing their determination to deliver justice for the slain lawyer and his bereaved family.
