Two police officers were earlier today fatally injured after the police car they were traveling in collided with an oncoming trailer at the Matisi area along Webuye-Bungoma Road.

According to a police report seen by The Informer Media Group, the two officers identified as Sammy Ng’eno, who was driving the car, and his colleague Samuel Yego died on the spot.

The duo was headed to Bungoma from Webuye when they met their untimely death as they crossed a bridge.

The rifles were safely recovered from the scene of the accident.

“Due to the impact, our officers sustained multiple body injuries and died on the spot, but their two rifles are safe. Scene visited sketched, and the bodies were moved to Webuye Sub County Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy,” the report by the police stated in part.

The impact of the crash was devastating, with the police vehicle suffering severe damage after smashing into the trailer.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save the officers. The bodies of the deceased officers have been taken to the Webuye County Hospital mortuary.

The crash comes weeks after 22 people were left with serious injuries after a tragic accident in Tetu Constituency, Nyeri County.

The ill-fated public service vehicle (PSV), known for its flashy design and popularity among young commuters, is reported to have overturned after losing control.

Eighteen passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital, while four remain in critical condition.

Kenya Red Cross teams swiftly responded to the incident, providing essential psychosocial support services to those affected.
