Veteran journalist Joyce Gituro sworn in as Machakos county Communications Chief Officer

Veteran Joyce Gituro has been today sworn in as Machakos County Chief Officer in the Department of Public Communications and E-Government.

The swearing-in ceremony came after the County Assembly of Machakos completed its successful vetting and approval process.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti attended the ceremony, which also included the swearing-in of two additional top officers.

They include Francis Munyambu (Inspectorate and Emergency Services) and Dr Juliana Ndunge (Sewerage, Sanitation, and Waste Management).

“I take the opportunity to wish them the very best, God’s guidance and wisdom as they serve the great people of Machakos County in fulfilling our Clarion call Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.” Wavinya stated.

Their appointments were gazetted by the governor on June 21, 2024.

In her acceptance message, Gituro thanked governor Wavinya for believing in her as she asked God to lead her in the new role.

I have so much to say about this appointment but for now, allow me to thank the Almighty God for His mercies that are new every morning, Hon Wavinya Ndeti for believing in me, my dear daughter and two sons for loving me always, my immediate and extended family members for being there and for ALL my friends for being very patient with me. Indeed let the Lord lead the way to my new territory.” She stated.

Gituro now famously referred to as Mama Jakes worked at Royal Media Services for over 15 years, having started as an On-Air Host and went on to grow through the ranks to become Transmission controller at Radio Citizen and later on Brand Manager.

In 2018, she quit and later on joined Mediamax Network as head of programs, where she was in charge of six Radio stations. She quit in 2019.

Gituro later joined Radio Jambo in 2020, where she worked as host of the Sunday show ‘Injili Jumapili’ (Gospel Sunday).

She quit to focus on business.
