Murkomen, Cherargei tussle take new twist as CS vows to sue Nandi Senator

Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has now threatened to take legal action against Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei as their war of words seems to take a new twist.

A letter seen by The Informer Media Group through Ongoya and Wambola advocates indicates CS Murkomen has written to Cherargei demanding an apology over alleged defamation.

“Our instructions are that we demand that within seven days from the date of this letter accept liability for defamation to give way for negotiations and tender an unqualified apology in writing to our client through the same channels through which you published the offending words.” The letter read in part.

The letter added that the failure of the Senator to apologize would lead to him being sued over the same.

“Take further notice that if you fail to comply with the terms of this demand within the time specified above, we have firm and unequivocal instructions to institute court proceedings against you without any further reference to you.” The letter added.

The counsel stated that the words used by Cherargei during a briefing last month on the 24th meant that the CS committed a criminal offense by receiving a bribe and is unfit to hold office and that he has been seeking protection from the parliament.

Further, they said the words were false and were published with malicious intentions without any evidence to ruin his reputation.

The allegations by the Nandi senator stemmed from a visit by Murkomen to China to meet some contractors to finance some key projects in the country.

CS Murkomen and Senator Cherargei have been clashing for some time now.

Murkomen and Cherargei have been clashing for some time now and their first clash was in October.

On October 27, 2023, the two engaged in a bitter exchange in public with the CS strongly criticizing the senator for allegedly opposing one of the contractors chosen to pave a road simply because he was not of his tribe. (Kalenjin)
