Bloodbath as 13 perish in bus crash along Wudanyi-Mwatate road, Taita Taveta county

There was bloodbath after a total of thirteen mourners perished after a hired public service bus they were traveling in from attending a burial ceremony was involved in a grisly road accident at Josa area along the Wundanyi-Mwatate road in Taita-Taveta County yesterday night.

Scores of survivors who sustained serious injuries were rushed to various hospitals in Mwatate and Voi hospitals for emergency treatment.

However, all the bodies of the 13 passengers were taken to Moi County Referral Hospital Mortuary in Voi.

It still remains unclear the number of people on board the fateful bus at the time.

However, unconfirmed reports show that the vehicle had 34 adult passengers and an unknown number of children.

Police say the mourners were going back to Mombasa from a burial ceremony at Mghambonyi in Taita Hills at the time of the accident.

Mwatate sub-county police commander Morris Okul said the bus’ brakes failed and as a result fell into a slope, causing the death of the passengers.
