Former Interior CS Matiang’i summoned to appear before DCI tomorrow

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has been summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters tomorrow for investigations over an alleged raid by elite police officers to his home.

In a letter top his lawyer Danstan Omari, Senior Superintendent of Police Michael Sang stated that the former Interior minister is to appear at the DCI HQ at 9.30am without fail.

“With the powers conferred upon me under Section 52 (1) of the National Police Service Act No 11A of 2011 I hereby compel you Dr Fred Matiang’i, the former Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior and National Coordination to appear before me at the DCI HQ along Kiambu Road at Mazingira House on the 7th of March 2023 at 9.30 am without fail,” he wrote.

His departure to the foreign country raised eyebrows on whether the embattled former Interior minister fled the country amid investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the DCI.

He however clarified that he was attending to personal matters.

The DCI is investigating an alleged raid by elite officers into the former CS’s home which the police have denied their involvement in.

On February 15,2023, DCI based detectives raided his home in search of CCTV footages of the alleged raid.

The DCI had denied that officers were engaged in the alleged raid and stated that it was looking into a case of a robbery attempt at the property.

The DCI said they are investigating a case of alleged attempted of robbery contrary to section 297 of the Penal Code.
