One dies, 17 others injured in Kijabe road accident
A female passenger died and 17 others escaped with injuries after a bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The Sunday evening accident near Kijabe area occurred after the driver of the bus lost control and rolled several times before landing in a ditch.
Five of the passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to various private and government hospitals with witnesses blaming the accident on reckless driving.
One of the passengers only identified as Wafula said they were traveling from Nairobi to western Kenya when the incident occurred.
“We cautioned him on the dangers of talking on phone since the bus was full and he ignored our pleas and when we started going downhill, he lost control of it rolling several times”.
He said the female passenger who lost her life had one of her arms chopped off and succumbed to injuries as she was being treated.
A senior police officer who did not want to be named said they were holding the driver and will be arraigned in court to face several charges among them causing death by reckless driving.
“The body has been taken to the Naivasha County Referral Hospital Mortuary and the vehicle has been towed to the local police station,” the officer said.
