Moja Expressway celebrate 10 million Nairobi Expressway users since its commissioning

Moja Expressway company has today celebrated 10 million users of the Nairobi Expressway since its commissioning in July 2022.

As part of the celebrations to mark the milestone seven months after the project was commissioned, the company awarded 5,000 free toll points to a few lucky users of the Nairobi Expressway at the Westlands Toll Station.

Moja Expressway CEO Steve Zhao emphasised the growth rate recorded since May 2022, with an average of 50,000 vehicles daily.

According to him, the Expressway was a game changer in Nairobi’s transportation network and a critical factor in elevating the city as a regional transport hub.

He thanked the Ministry of Transport and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) for their contributions to the project’s success.

Furthermore, the company lauded the elevated highway’s role in lowering the rate of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

“According to a recent study, if a motorist makes 10,000 trips using the ETC option, they save approximately 314 litres of fuel and remove approximately 670kgs of carbon from the environment,” he stated.

“ETC not only saves time by allowing motorists to pass in 3 seconds, but it also saves fuel, which is a direct contribution to environmental conservation, and it comes with a 5 percent discount on toll fees per trip.”

Principal Secretary of the State Department of Roads Joseph Mbugua lauded the project’s efficiency from conception to the now-operationalised highway.

He also urged the company to expedite the construction of the proposed Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) Toll Station.

The Moja Expressway was contracted to collect tolls on the Expressway to compensate for the Sh59billion capital invested in the project through a Public Private Partnership deal.
