Bloodbath as 14 die, 12 injured after lorry plunge into a ditch to avoid hitting a camel in Lodwar
The Kakwamunyen village in Lodwar is engulfed in a somber mood following last night bloodbath following a road crash that has so far claimed fourteen lives among them eight female adults, three male adults and 3 boys.
Twelve others are recuperating at Lodwar county and Referral Hospital in critical condition.
According to preliminary police findings, the lorry they were travelling in along the Lodwar-Kakuma road plunged into a ditch after swerving avoiding to hit a camel last night at 10pm at Kakwamunyen area.
The lorry, which headed towards Kakuma driven by a 33 years old driver whose fate remains unclear.
“Unfortunately, due to the heavy weight of the vehicle from the goods and the passengers onboard, the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle overturned and landed in a culvert on the right side of the road occasioning injuries to the passengers and the vehicle extensively damaged.” The National Police Service (NPS) headquarters, Vigilance House said.
The injured were have been rushed to Lodwar County and Referral Hospital by the County ambulance for treatment.
Meanwhile, the bodies have been removed to the same facility’s mortuary awaiting autopsy.
Police officials who visited the scene also towed the vehicle to Lodwar Police Station pending inspection and comprehensive investigations into the cause of the accident.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while driving on any road and adhere to traffic rules.
