Gladys Chania detained for seven days as police probe husband’s murder

A Kiambu Court has granted police plea to detain politician Gladys Chania, co-accused Maurice Mbugua for 7 days pending completion of death probe on husband’s murder.

Gladys Chania and Maurice Mbugua, the main suspects in the murder of George Mwangi, will appear in court on October 24 for further directions.

In an affidavit, senior prosecuting attorney Evelyne Odunga informed the court that the DCI needed more time to complete its investigations because of the complicated nature of the murder case.

Odunga said that the homicide division had taken over the investigation because one person named John was missing and detectives needed to know his whereabouts.

“Due to the complexity of the situation, the homicide section has taken over the investigation. One person is missing, “Odunga stated.

Chania was arrested by detectives on Friday and according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Chania is perceived to have come up with the murder scheme after learning of her husband’s alleged liaison with a school secretary in the area.

According to sources, their relationship appeared to be going through rough patches.

Chania is suspected to have colluded in executing his murder with a new employee and other accomplices.

According to the DCI, the alleged relationship started soon after the woman and Mwangi crossed paths while looking for a rented accommodation.

The two apparently spent a lot of time together whenever Mwangi visited the country, suggesting that the alleged affair was not a secret.

Reports revealed that Mwangi had gone with his love interest to a family event in Kimunyu the day before he was killed.

Family members said that Mwangi had introduced the woman as his second wife, and the extended family already knew her.
