Mohamed Amin Ibrahim appointed new DCI boss
President William Ruto has appointed Mohamed Amin Ibrahim as the new Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss to replace George Kinoti.
Ruto made his appointment public through a gazette notice.
“In exercise of the powers conferred, I William Ruto appoint Amin Mohamed Ibrahim to be the Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” the notice read.
His appointment follows the release of 10 shortlisted candidates announced by the National Police Service Commission who were interviewed on Tuesday.
Ibrahim served as the Head of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and has served in various capacities including the then CID investigations Bureau, Banking Fraud Investigations.
As a cadet inspector trainee, Ibrahim joined the Kenya police in 1989.
He advanced through the ranks, holding many top posts, including that of a provincial CID officer in the former Central, Western, and Rift Valley provinces.
Ibrahim was appointed assistant Inspector General and director of Kenya’s small arms and light weapons focal point in 2019.
Additionally, Ibrahim oversaw the investigations and prosecution of cases involving violence after the 2007 elections.
