AFDB, Korean Exim Bank to finace mega water project in Busia

The African Development Bank (AFDB) and Korean  Exim Bank will finance the construction of a  Sh5.7 billion Kocholia- Amagoro -Amoni  Multipurpose water resources and food crop development project in Busia county.

Project manager for Kocholia-Amagoro-Amoni Horticultural  and Food  Crops  Value  Chain  Development Project  Comas Muli  said the two banks will provide  financial assistance  for the multipurpose  water resource development project.

Muli said that the time frame of the project will take five years adding that other, it is expected to  start in 2018.

He said the project consists a dam which is 43m high and 66.9million cubic metres of  water and is going to be used for irrigation in about 2000 hectares of land.

Muli said the  project  will address food and water security, adding that the  overall  purpose of the mission was to discuss  and assess a wide variety  of issues relevant  for the preparation of the project.

The bank team held   discussions  with    Acting   Busia County  Executive Committee Member  for Water , Environment and Natural Resources  Bernard Yaite.
