Ethiopian foreign minister Demeke Mekonnen meets AU Commissioner to address political affairs, peace and security in the region
Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen and the Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, Chair of the African Union Commission for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security have had a conclusive meeting today on the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Northern region.
According Mekonne the crisis in Ethiopia will be resolved amicably with the Foreign Minister reaffirming an establishment has been set aside to
“We appreciate the establishment of the National Dialogue Commission and ongoing peace efforts to end the conflict in North Ethiopia,” Commissioner Bankole Adeoye said.
The envoy expressed his concern over the fighting along Ethiopia’s and Sudan’s shared border, while also praising Ethiopia’s leadership for its decision to defuse the situation.
Mekonnen further said the event on the border between the two nations minister is out of character for the long-standing friendship between the people of Ethiopia and Sudan.
“Sudan has unnecessarily tried to internationalise the issue by filing complaints to the security council, bypassing the African Union (AU),” Demeke Mekonnen claimed.
