The Education Ministry has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to unravel the origin of the huge fire that ravaged Kisumu Boys High School.
While addressing the press, Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan stated that various government agencies had been deployed to establish the cause of the fire.
“Ministry will only come in after we have established the cause of the fire. Kenya Power and Ministry of Housing teams have asked for time to conclude the investigations,” he said.
“I have said this before that the government cannot allocate funds to rebuild the infrastructure if, for instance, it is found that the fire was started by students,” Jwan added.
The agency teams would also come up with a comprehensive report detailing the magnitude of damages the fire had caused as the school strives to resume normalcy.
The report will also assist the ministry in devising a way forward to fixing the destroyed infrastructure.
According to the PS, tents would be used as classrooms in the meantime while others will be converted into temporary dormitories.
The fire destroyed three dormitories and four classrooms displacing 250 students.
The fire is said to have begun in one of the dormitories while the learners were in class and spread quickly to the adjacent classrooms and dormitories.
