Tabitha Karanja: I don’t own Keroche breweries

Keroche Breweries Chief Executive Officer Tabitha Karanja has come out to claim that she does not own the company, but she is just an employee.

In an affidavit filed in court, Tabitha stated that she is an employee of Keroche Breweries as the company CEO and Managing Director.

Tabitha made the sentiments while responding to a petition filed by politician Daniel Mahiri intending to block her bid for the Nakuru senate seat.

According to Mahiri, Tabitha is unfit to hold public office due to Keroche’s prolonged tax evasion cases which the senatorial hopeful has been battling on and off.

Mahiri lost to Tabitha in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries for the Nakuru Senate seat.

“I am employed by Keroche Breweries Limited as a director and the Chief Executive Officer of the company, but I am not the owner of the company as alleged by the petitioner,” Tabitha said.

Tabitha described Mahiri in court papers seen by The Informer as a sore loser who is not motivated by ethics or ideals as he claims in his petition.

She stated that his motivation is selfish and aimed at eliminating competition for personal gains.

Mahiri filed the case under a certificate of urgency and listed UDA, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Office of the Ombudsman as respondents alongside Tabitha.

The case will be heard by Justice Joel Ngugi today via video link after Justice Anthony Mrima transferred the matter to the Nakuru High Court.
