Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that he will not take part in the Azimio One Kenya Alliance coalition’s vetting process for the running mate slot.
This comes after the coalition’s council created a seven-member team to assist presidential candidate Raila Odinga in selecting a suitable running partner.
Junet Mohamed, the secretary-general of the party’s Executive Committee, said the committee will be responsible with identifying and submitting the names of suitable candidates to deputize Odinga.
In an interview with a television station, stated that it is evident that he is the best candidate for the running mate job and that he should not be asked to apply.
“If we were to tell each other the truth and everyone in our team knows the right thing to do.
I do not understand why anyone would ask me to apply for the position of running mate. Did Raila apply to be the flagbearer?” he posed.
The interviews will begin today, May 4, and end on May 10, after which Odinga will announce the winner to the public.
Meanwhile, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has also thrown her hat in the race claiming she is the best candidate suited to be Odinga’s running mate, in the upcoming elections.
Ngilu goes on to say that if a candidate from Ukambani is chosen, she is better equipped than former V-P Kalonzo Musyoka.
The governor stated that Azimio la Umoja is not taking any chances and that they are committed to seeing Raila win.
She urged Kenyans to vote against Deputy President William Ruto’s bid for the presidency.
During the journey, she dedicated a 600-metre tarmac road in Tseikuru town, which was funded by her administration to improve transportation and prevent respiratory problems caused by dust.
