No need for elections in August for some JP ticket winners in North Rift

As the dust settles on the party primaries, some candidates who won various seats are just waiting to be sworn in because they don’t have opponents in the August 8 polls.

Top on the list is Nandi Senator Stephen Sang who braved a strong field comprising of veteran politician Henry Kosgei, former cabinet secretary Felix Koskei to win the gubernatorial seat and in Nakuru, Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika who clinched the senate seat.

The eloquent, suave and charismatic Kihika won the seat by a landslide beating veteran politicians Koigi Wamwere, Njenga Mungai and Nairobi based lawyer Karanja Kabage. She garnered slightly over 270, 000 votes while her closest challenger, Kabage managed 49, 000.

A lawyer by profession, Susan is the daughter of former Nakuru North MP Kihika Kimani, trailblazer in his hey days.

Another lucky politician is former finance minister Amos Kimunya who made a comeback after beating incumbent Samuel Gichingi in Kipipiri constituency. The former powerful minister lost the seat in 2013.

In Nyandarua, Faith Gitau who won Jubilee Party Women Representative seat is waiting to be sworn since she also doesn’t have a competitor for the August poll.

She holds a degree in Social Science from Washington University and worked at the United Nations for more than 22 years. She contested for the same seat but lost to Wanjiku Muhia in the TNA nominations.

Meanwhile, women politicians in Nakuru scored big after scooping a  senatorial and two parliamentary positions in the just concluded Jubilee Party primaries.
Nakuru County speaker Susan  who was battling it out with seven aspirants emerged winner bagging the JP ticket.

Kihika’s win put her in a pole position to become the first elected Senator in the country.
She garnered 270, 581 votes against Lawyer Karanja Kabage who got 49,141 coming distant second.

Other aspirants were former Molo MP Njenga Mungai, former assistant minister Koigi Wamwere, Jack Waihenya and businesswoman Wambui Mambo.

“I would wish to thank Nakuru voters for believing in me and I assure you I will not let you down. Nominations are over therefore let us unite and work together.” Kihika said.

Kihika called upon all aspirants who did not make it to support the winners and the party so as to facilitate the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In parliamentary positions, former Naivasha MP Jane Kihara trounced the incumbent John Kihagi to clinch the JP ticket.
