DP Ruto says Linturi has apologised over hate speech remarks

Deputy President William Ruto has broken silence over the “madoadoa” remarks made by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi in Eldoret saying the latter has apologised over the regrettable utterances.

However, the DP remained mum over the potentially damage caused.

Speaking today at a rally in Bomet Green Stadium, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader affirmed that his party will not tolerate inciteful statements, further stating that Linturi has already apologised for his utterances.

“Senator Linturi made a statement which he regrets, a statement that had inappropriate language and has apologised, he has withdrawn the statement and has unconditionally apologised to the people of Kenya,” said Ruto.

Ruto has now urged his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) members to be mindful of their language while addressing the public.

“We want to say, going forward and to members of my team, the hustler nation, that all of us must mind our language, all of us must be careful about what they say so that we can unite this nation and that is what the Hustler Nation believes in,” he said.

Linturi is currently being held at the Kaptembwo Police Station.

His lawyers, Elias Mutuma and Kennedy Echesa said it was not necessary to move the Senator from Eldoret to Nakuru, Nairobi and then back to Nakuru.

“We were hoping that he would be charged in Nairobi but he was brought back to Kaptembwo where we arrived at some minutes past midnight,” he said.

Linturi was arrested yesterday by detectives attached to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission following a directive by the Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP) Nordin Haji.

On Saturday evening, Haji ordered Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to initiate investigations into Linturi’s remarks.

“Pursuant to Article 157 (4) of the Constitution, I hereby direct that you immediately institute comprehensive investigations into the said allegation and submit the resultant investigations file on or before 14th January, 2022,” Haji said.
