Covid-19 rate drops to 2.2 per cent as 54 positive cases reported

The Ministry of Health has today announced a total of 54 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 2,501 tested in the last 24 hours, as the country’s positivity rate stands at 2.2 per cent.

Also, seven patients are reported to have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of September 2021.

This raises the total confirmed positive cases to 248,515 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,537,382.

From the cases, 52 are Kenyans while 2 are foreigners; 24 are males and 30 are females, while the youngest is a two-year-old child and the oldest is 93 years.

The cases were recorded across various counties namely; Nairobi 22, Machakos 7, Murang’a 4,  Nakuru 4, Uasin Gishu 3, Kajiado 2, Nyeri 2, Kiambu, Kakamega, Kisii, Meru, Wajir, Kirinyaga, Mombasa, Nandi, Trans Nzoia and Baringo 1 each.

The ministry stated that 437 patients recovered from the disease; with 314 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 123 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries stand at 240,672.

“A total of 1,126 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,586 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 73 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 49 of whom are on ventilatory support and 24 on supplemental oxygen,” read the statement to newsrooms.

“No patients is under observation. Another 368 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 353 of them in general wards and 15 in High Dependency Units (HDU).”

A total of 3,613,357 vaccines had so far been administered across the country as of September 27, 2021. Of these, total first doses were 2,737,982 while second doses were 889,298.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.3 percent.

The government is working towards marking this year’s Mashujaa Day with at least 5.8 million people vaccinated.
