Registrar of political parties confirms dissolution of NASA

Registrar of political parties has confirmed the dissolution of the National Super Alliance (NASA).

This is after three principles, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula dispatched their letters authorizing their withdrawal to the registrar of political parties for action.

In a letter copied to Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo (Wiper), Wetangula (Ford-Kenya) and Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani, registrar of political parties Ann Nderitu said that the resolutions of parties were executed as per set requirements.

“This Office shall, in line with Regulation 22 (2) of the Political Parties (Registration) Regulations, 2019, publish a notice of the dissolution in two newspapers,” Nderitu said.

The collapse of the alliance started after Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ‘handshake’ deal in 2018 in which Raila abandoned the allies that had supported his unsuccessful presidential campaigns in 2012 and 2018.

The other three Nasa leaders accused Raila of betrayal and vowed never to endorse him again.

Earlier this month, Kalonzo, Musalia and Wetangula  formally exited the troubled coalition after they signed dissolution letters.

The three principals said the letters authorizing their withdrawal have been dispatched to the registrar of political parties for action.

In a joint communique read by Nambale Member of Parliament Sakwa Bunyasi said that relevant instruments giving effect to the decision have been processed by each party in accordance with their respective party constitutions.

“We restate that the Coalition has to be brought to an end in a formal and orderly manner. Let the organic trust deficit that was the modus operandi and bedeviled NASA not encumber the process of dissolution and accountability,” read a joint communique.

The leaders also cited what they termed as ‘trust deficit’ as one of the key reasons that jeopardized the opposition coalition.

“Mindful of this trust deficit, our three parties, transparently informed the Kenyan people of their individual decision to leave the NASA Coalition.” they said in a joint statement

They indicated that they want to formalise their One Kenya Alliance with Kenya African National Union leader Gideon Moi.
