One Kenya Alliance (OKA) Principals have dismissed media reports that they had agreed to support Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s candidature in next year’s presidential election.
The alliance which brings together Gideon Moi (Kanu), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) said that during their meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, nothing was discussed on supporting anyone for the top seat.
“We hereby state categorically that our visits to State House aren’t summons to browbeat us into supporting one candidate or the other, as the distorted narratives suggest. These have been very cordial consultative meetings deliberating on national matters,” read part of the statement.
“Indeed, yesterday’s meeting was one such conference where a new Covid-19 surge and containment measures were the subject of extensive discussion. No one asked or even suggested that we support anyone for anything.”
The alliance rebuked Nation Media Group on what they termed as ‘false reporting’.
The principals accused the newspaper of fabricating stories on their meetings with Uhuru, in favour of Raila.
They called for accurate reporting arguing Kenyans deserve factual, verifiable, and balanced reporting of events and not fiction about manufactured events that didn’t take place.
“Kenyans deserve correct, factual, verifiable, attributable and balanced reporting of events and not fiction about manufactured events that didn’t take place; sanitised through the veneer of creative realities, deceptive facts, opaque shadowy sources and twisted logic,” they said.
The political parties held a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday at State House Mombasa.
According to Spokesperson Kanze Dena, the leaders agreed to play a leading role in encouraging Kenyans to abide by the Covid-19 containment protocols and interventions including uptake of vaccines.
“Once again, the Political Party Leaders applauded Government efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, and appealed to Kenyans to take personal responsibility so as to safeguard the health and wellbeing of all Kenyans,” stated Kanze.
Also present were Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, and Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i (Interior) and Mutahi Kagwe (Health) among other senior government officials.
