IPOA concludes probe of slained Embu brothers, officers involved suspended

The civilian oversight body against police, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has concluded investigations of two brothers who lost their lives at the hands of police officers from Manyatta Police Station in Embu County.
According to Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, IPOA has forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP),” said IG.
“Good morning, first, my sincere condolences to the Kianjokama family. IPOA has concluded investigations on the matter and forwarded the file to the DPP for action.
Meanwhile, all the officers have been suspended with immediate effect to pave way for prosecution.
Mutyambai assured that justice will be served for the Kianjokoma brothers, but only if the proper due processes are allowed to take place.
“I assure you that justice for the Kianjokoma brothers will be served, but this can only be done if we allow the proper due process to take place with concrete evidence that can stand a trial in the court of justice,” he added.
Benson Njiru Ndwiga and Emmanuel Mutura Ndwiga had been arrested for allegedly flouting curfew hours and later found dead under unclear circumstances.
IPOA had deployed investigators from its Nairobi headquarters to beef up their Meru Rapid Investigations counterparts.
The death of the two brothers sparked protests in Embu which led to the killing of a civilian and a police van torched.
The two were laid to rest at their father’s farm in Kithangari Kianjokoma in Embu North.
