Kirinyaga County disburses Sh32.8M bursary to needy students

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has disbursed Ksh32.8 million bursary to assist County needy students in secondary schools, colleges and universities.
While issuing the bursary cheques to the beneficiaries at her official residence, Waiguru said the funds will facilitate the education of vulnerable students identified during an intensive vetting process by bursary committees.
“It is my commitment to ensure our students remain in learning institutions as the term begins. As such, today I disbursed Ksh 32.8M to assist 10,576 needy students in Kirinyaga,” she said.
The beneficiaries include 7,867 secondary school students, 1,514 college students and 1,195 university students.
Further, she appealed to school principals to continue encouraging their students as they learn and at the same time encouraged the students to work hard in their studies.
“I appeal to school management teams to ensure that all the laid down Covid-19 containment protocols are observed at all times in the learning institutions,” she said.
Additionally, she said that the County’s Department of Health will continue offering the required support to ensure compliance with the protocols by the institutions.
She said that this was the last tranche of this year bursary kitty of Ksh113 million aimed at benefiting more than 40,000 students.
