Limuru Member of Parliament(MP) Peter Mwathi has been elected unopposed as the chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security.
This is after Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, who was eyeing the seat, withdrew her candidature after Raila’s intervention.
“The fact that the Prime Minister told me his preferred candidate for this position is Mwathi and that he has communicated to the President, and with the respect I have for Raila, it ended there,” Gedi told members of the committee
Mwathi replaces the late Kiambaa lawmaker Paul Koinange who succumbed to Covid-19.
Members of the committee asked their new chairman to take up from where Koinange left.
Mwathi has served in different House committees and was previously the Chair of the Labor and Social Services Committee before being moved to the Security Committee.
He has been a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission, was the first vice-chair of the privileges committee.
Mwathi thanked the members for the confidence and promised that they will walk the journey together.
“…The late Koinange was my close friend. I will ensure that we deal with the issues that are pending,” he said.
