Moses Kuria, 10 others fined Sh75,000 each for flouting Covid-19 restrictions

Member of Parliament for Gatundu South, Moses Kuria, is one of 30 people who were arrested yesterday for flouting Covid-19 restrictions.
The accused appeared today before Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo where they pleaded guilty in a Kiambu Law Court.
They were each fined Sh75,000 each or eight months imprisonment in a forfeit.

The MP was reportedly apprehended in Kiambaa at Havilla Cornerstone Gardens at 9 pm and transported to the Karuri police station.
The police received after a tip-off that there was a gathering of a political nature which was in contravention of the Covid-19 rules.
They faced five charges which included consumption of alcohol, failing to maintain a physical distance, not wearing face masks, prohibition of gathering and contravening provisions of curfew.
Separately, the country’s Covid-19 positivity rate has risen to 16.3 per cent, with 486 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Health yesterday, the new infections were realized in 2,989 samples.
According to the statement, the new infections include 457 Kenyans and 29 foreigners, with 278 males and 208 females.
Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (16), 10-19 years (21), 20-29 years (81), 30-39 years (119), 40-49 years (104), 50-59 years (71), 60 and above (74).
Currently, there are 1,645 patients admitted to various health facilities across the country, with 6,063 patients on Home Based Isolation and Care.
