MRC wants government to disclose whereabouts of its chairman

Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) has asked the Government to disclose the whereabouts of the groups chairman Omar Mwamnuadzi.

Spokesman Richard Lewa claimed that the government had a hand in his disappearance.

He said the government had remained silence on the whereabouts of Mwamnuadzi eight months after he went missing raising suspicion among members of the group.

“The government should be accountable on all its citizens, no government official has ever spoken on the whereabouts of Mwamnuadzi, let them come out and tell us where he is, ” he said.

Lewa accused the government of playing games of hide and seek in concealing the the information regarding Mwamnuadzi and challenged police to come clean and inform the public what happened to him.

He added that Mwamnuadzi had no reason to go into hiding and termed his disappearance as another case of enforced disappearance.

The MRC spokesman said he too and other members of the group feared for their lives.

“We live in fear, knowing that what befell our leader could also be the same fate awaiting us,” he said.

Mwamnuadzi who went missing in July last year had several matters pending before both Kwale and Mombasa courts. A Mombasa has also issuing warrant arrest against him for absconding the hearing of the cases of being a member of an illegal group and being in illegal possession of a gun.

At the same time, Nairobi senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko is on the blink of losing his property in a case in which he stood surety to Mwamnuadzi if the accused does not appear in court on March 7.
