Public servants advised to migrate to e-passport my March next year

All public servants have been directed to acquire e-passports by March 1, 2019.

In a circular dated September, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua said the initiative was announced in 2016.

Kenyan passport holders were given a grace period of two years to comply.

Public servants are to migrate from the current machine-readable passports to the e-passport.

“The current passports will cease to be valid travel documents with effect from September 1, 2019,” Kinyua said.

He said international travel clearances for public servants, whether official or personal will only be granted where applicant possesses a Kenyan e-passport.

“Where a public servant does not have an e-passport by March 1, 2019, they will be ineligible for clearance until after September 1, 2019,” reads the circular.
