Court denies bond man who stabbed magistrate in Nakuru
A man who stunned a parked court room in Nakuru by allegedly stabbing the magistrate and the complainant will stay in remand until the matter is heard and determined.
This comes after the trial court denied him bond on the grounds that he is serving a four year sentence for assault and therefore, even if he is released on bond he would still remain in prison.
Chief magistrate Josephat Kalo denied an application by Kuhora’s lawyer Gacheru Ng’ang’a adding that his application is misplaced and cannot stand since his client is already convicted.
“The application for bond is denied, the accused cannot be released on bond since he is already serving a 4 year jail term for assault,” he ruled.
Ng’ang’a Gacheru who insisted his client has a right to appeal vowed to clear his client of the charges adding that they have not been supplied with the raw CCTV footage of the day.
“I will ensure that my client is cleared of the charges since we have not been supplied by the CCTV raw footage despite a court order to do so,” he said
Kuhora is facing attempted murder charges where he is accused of willingly attacking and stabbing Resident magistrate Eunice Kelly, a civilian Edith Adhiambo and a police constable Regina Wanjiru with a screwdriver with an intent to kill.
The accused who sought to be released on bond accused the prosecution of bias in handling his matter adding that they are driving the case filled with emotions.
“The case is being mishandled by the prosecution since they are making me look bad in the eyes of the public,” said kuhora.
The matter was slated for hearing on March 2 where the prosecution has lined up a total of 12 witnesses including the stabbed magistrate.
