A high stakes operation by sleuths on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 ostensibly laid out to nab one of the city governors was nipped in the bud after a senior trade unionist placed an urgent call to a top political party leader to salvage the situation.

The party honcho in turn played his part, a move that compelled the sleuths to call off the high level operation that was underway, our sources in political circles have intimated.

Angered by the move, the detectives and their top leadership in one of the watchdog entities disparaged the apparent intrusion in execution of their mandate.

The action is also widely seen as tantamount to pouring cold water to anti-graft initiatives days after President William Ruto unveiled a multi-agency body chaired by his office to fight graft.

The High Court has since temporarily halted the president’s operation to form a Multi-Agency Team on War Against Corruption following a petition challenging its legality. Justice Bahati Mwamuye, in conservatory orders issued on August 20, 2025, directed that the proclamation establishing the team be suspended pending full hearing of the case.

The embattled governor is now said to be playing his cards safe not to fallout with his apparent ‘godfathers’ lest his fate is permanently sealed including impeachment.

Kenya currently has five designated cities: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret.

Nairobi is the capital and largest city, Mombasa is the second-largest port city, Kisumu is a major urban center on Lake Victoria, and Nakuru and Eldoret are large urban centers in the Rift Valley region.
