A former senior police officer with the Irish National Police, Keith Murray, is the new Deputy Head of Mission (DHoM) at EUCAP Somalia, seconded by the United Kingdom.
Murray joined the Mission on Friday last week.
Somalia is not the first crisis area EUCAP Somalia’s DHoM has dealt with as Murray has worked as a senior Police Training Advisor with the UN Development Programme last year in
Peshawar in Pakistan and has worked with missions in Ukraine, Kosovo, Macedonia, Sudan (Darfur), Sierra Leone, Liberia and Haiti.
The DHoM’s international career has also taken him also to Brussels, where he worked for the European Union External Action service for about four years and to New York, where he worked at the UN Headquarters.
“I am delighted to now be part of this important Mission and its commitment for the good of Somalia and its people. I know that I will really enjoy working with the Mission’s staff and our Somali counterparts. I will do everything that I can to optimise Mission’s welfare and work, so that we can better deliver for our Somali partners”, said Murray upon assuming office.
EUCAP Somalia is a civilian EU mission, under the auspices of the Common Security and Defence Policy, which helps in strengthening Somali’s maritime capacity.
