
A section of leaders from Lower Eastern and Ukambani governors have vowed to rally their counties to back the Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga’s quest for the country’s top seat.
Charity Ngilu (Kutui), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) have agreed to work together with Raila ahead of 2022 polls.
In a written declaration read by Governor Mutua, the leaders have called on the opposition leader to prioritize access to water, and invest in water storage facilities.
“In order to effectively address these challenges, we have resolved we will join hands with the Odinga for the 2022 elections under Azimio la Umoja,” read the declaration.
They highlighted their resolutions regarding political interests in representation, economic prosperity, devolution in terms of resource distribution, eradicating poverty, drought, insecurity, infrastructure developments and creation of employment opportunities.
On his part, Raila vowed to fight corruption stating that Kenya loses a lot of money to unscrupulous people.
“I know where there are loopholes. I have been Prime Minister of Kenya and I will seal all of them,” he said.
He also said that he would focus on ensuring resources are trickled down to the county levels.
“This is one of the commitments I am making, that I will bring more resources down to the counties and ensure they are used effectively for the benefit of the people of our country,” he stated.
On youth’s joblessness, Raila said that Kenya is working towards its third liberation economic liberation, and this is where the youth have a huge role to play.
He maintained young people need to be empowered with skills and given money to start and grow SMEs, adding that this is something he intends to do.
“When I say that they say its small talk. It is a promise and where there is a will there is a way,” he said.
Leaders present included Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, Secretary general Edwin Sifuna, MPs Junet Mohamed (Suna East) Maina Kamanda (Nominated), and Raphael Wanjala (Budalangi) among others.
Royal Media Services chairman S.K Macharia was also present.
