
County Government of Nakuru has empowered local farmers economically after it distributed automatic egg incubators and uninterruptible power supply gadgets to farmer groups.
Ten farmer groups in Menengai West Ward in Rongai sub-county received ten automatic incubators of 176 egg capacity each and backup generators and uninterruptible power supply gadgets.
“The County will also distribute 3,960 eggs for hatching in addition to the 1-month old 3,560 chicks distributed recently,” said the Chief Officer for Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Enos Amuyunzu.
The initiative by the County seeks to improve the nutritional quality of dietary intake.
The groups are; St Monica, Imani Mang’u Wezesha, Kironai, Pendo Women Group, Pamel SHG, Ol-Rongai Tulwobmoi SHG, Faith Sister SHG, Mwanzo Mpya and Safina Widows.
So far, the County has distributed 41,000 one-month-old chicks, 106 automatic incubators and 24,000 eggs to various farmer groups across the County.
Menengai West MCA Simon Mwangi while thanking Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration for the initiative said the equipment will transform the region economically.
Beneficiaries Alex Nguyo and Milka Muhia added that the poultry program will also offer employment opportunities besides uplifting them economically.
