Football Kenya Federation officials back in office
The embattled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials are free to get back to their offices located at goal project kasarani as from today as they await official communications by world football governing body, FIFA, on the lifting of Kenya’s suspension from international duties.
Yesterday the Ministry of Sports fulfilled conditions as set out by the FIFA Council, as part of the ongoing efforts by the Government to allow Kenya’s return to international football.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba reinstated the disbanded Football Kenya Federation’s National Executive Committee and Secretariat in line with FIFA’s demands for the suspension to be lifted.
Kenya has been serving an indefinite suspension from all football activities handed by world governing football body FIFA on February 24 this year for government interference.
Following the development FKF in a statement announced that the local leagues will resume.
“In this regard, the Federation will in the coming days communicate the next steps, including the status of the just concluded 2021/2022 league season and scheduled dates for the kick-off of the 2022/2023 league season.” The statement read in part.
Kenya will however still be out of international football, save for friendly matches, as most qualifiers have either concluded or continuing.
The qualifiers for the 2023 Cup of Nations have already commenced while the qualifiers for the Under-17 and Under-23 AFCON have concluded. The AFCON U20 qualifiers are currently on.
