2020 KCSE candidates to know their universities, colleges by mid-August

The 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates those who applied for placement to local universities and colleges will know their fate by mid-August this year.

In a statement, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome said that this follows the conclusion of the revision of choices on July 23, 2021.

“We are keen on concluding the process and releasing the outcome to all applicants by mid August, 2021,” she said.

Scheduled to close on July 17, 2021, KUCCPS granted a week’s extension to mobilise more applicants and ensure no eligible candidate was left behind.

According to KUCCPS, a total of 4,359 candidates took advantage of the extension and revised their degree choices. In total, over 90 per cent of all candidates who qualified for degree courses applied.

“Since May 24, 2021, KUCCPS has been rallying all the 2020 KCSE examination candidates to apply for placement to universities and colleges for sponsorship in artisan, certificate, diploma or degree courses of their choice,” read the stament.

Further, KUCCPS also targeted secondary school graduates with any mean grade from the year 2000 to 2020 for placement and government sponsorship to WET institutions.

KUCCPS launched the selection process of 2020 KCSE to technical colleges on May 24, 2021.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha had directed KUCCPS to ensure all interested candidates apply to colleges and Tvet institutions of their choice.

“I have directed KUCCPS to ensure proper public mobilisation and communication campaigns are put in place to ensure all intrested candidates apply to colleges and Tvet institutions of their choice,” he said.

Students reviewed their options based on their grades and career aspirations and they also had a chance to change the institutions they wish to attend according to the programmes on offer.

KUCCPS analysed the data by considering students’ choices against available places then open a second window for revision before they conclude the process.

In placing the candidates, the cut-off points for each programme is usually determined by KUCCPS based on the applicant’s choices and their performance in relevant subjects.

Nationally, 893 candidates scored clean As and 6,420 had A-(minus) and 143,140 scored C+ and above guaranteeing their placement in public universities in the country.

The other 600,159 students who scored between C and E, qualify for placement in diploma, certificate and artisan courses.

Those who qualified for university placement under government sponsorship were  instructed to review their degree choices.

Magoha had announced that universities, colleges and Tvet institutions have enough places for all candidates.
