Court restrains Mike Sonko from publishing videos, audio of Kananu

Nairobi Governor, Anne Kananu, has obtained court orders restraining Mike Sonko, from posting any further videos, comments, texts or materials implicating her.

This is after Kananu moved to court this week suing Sonko for defamation.

Chief Magistrate H Nyaga on Friday stopped Sonko and Nkatha from publishing or sharing anything on Kananu pending hearing of her case.

“Respondents by themselves are hereby restrained by an order of temporary injunction from further writing, printing, publishing, circulating, disseminating or causing to be written, printed, published, circulated, disseminated in any manner whatsoever any, audio and/or video recordings, words and statements that are defamatory and/or disparaging in any manner whatsoever to the Applicant,” ordered Justice Nyaga.

Kananu has also sued her alleged acquittance Thuru Nkatha alongside Sonko.

“Pending inter partes hearing and determination of this case, Sonko and Nkatha are hereby restrained by an order of temporary injunction from further writing, printing, publishing, circulating whether electronically or on online any audio or video recording that is defamation,” he ruled.

Nyagah said they should not share any printed words or statements that are defamatory or disparaging to Kananu

Sonko had released a series of video and audio recordings accusing Kananu of colluding with other persons to destroy his political career.

The case will be mentioned next week Friday for inter partes hearing.

Sonko has since been summoned to appear in person before the Judicial Service Commission to testify on the leaked videos relating to Judge Said Juma Chitembwe.

In a notice signed by Chief Registrar Ann Amadi, JSC has further directed Sonko to appear before the commission in seven days to record a statement on the same.

The commission has taken note of the several video clips posted on social media together with phone recordings released by Sonko against justice Chitembwe.
