Boda boda rider killed in accident outside Thika police station
He was reportedly trying to overtake a vehicle but his bike collided with the lorry head-on
A boda boda rider was killed on the spot in a gristly accident outside the Thika police station, Kiambu County.
During the midday accident that left witnesses in shock, a passenger on the motorcycle survived unhurt as the rider’s head was crushed by a lorry that he rammed into at the gate of the police station.
It occurred along the Kenyatta Highway in the middle of the town, just a few meters from a zebra crossing, when the rider reportedly tried to overtake a vehicle but his bike collided with the lorry head-on.
Johanah Mwangi who witnessed the collision said the accident could have been avoided had the rider exercised caution.
“Boda boda operators should be careful while on the roads and the same should be the case with motorists. This tragedy could have been avoid,” said Mwangi, a trader and former motorcycle rider.
Another witness said the spot where the accident occurred is usually crammed with trucks parked on the roadside which makes it risky for road users.
The body of the deceased was removed to the Thika level 5 hospital mortuary awaiting police investigations.
